Cell phone distracted driving legislative update

Strong legislation will help end cell phone distracted driving. We encourage you to use our Legislative Action Center to send pre-written and customizable letters to lawmakers in your state showing your support for bills that would ban all cell phone use – both handheld and hands-free – while driving.

The Legislative Action Center provides an overview of key legislation NSC is tracking pertaining to cell phone distracted driving and teen driving. You can search for bills, identify your state lawmakers, find local media outlets, learn how to effectively contact lawmakers and more.

Florida

  • S 74 would prohibit all motorists from texting

Maryland

  • SB 339 would upgrade the teen device ban and handheld ban from secondary to primary enforcement

New Mexico

  • S 17 would prohibit all motorists from texting

Oklahoma

South Carolina

  • H 3121 would prohibit all motorists from texting

South Dakota

  • S 142 would prohibit all motorists from texting

Texas

  • H 63 would prohibit all motorists from texting

Virginia

  • H 3157 would upgrade enforcement of the state’s distracted driving law from secondary to primary
