An estimated 1 in 4 car crashes involve cell phone use. There really isn’t a safe way to use a cell phone while driving, either. Even hands-free devices are risky, because drivers are too distracted by the conversation to fully focus on the road. It’s especially important for teen drivers to stay off the phone. Their crash risk already is high, and talking on a cell phone increases crash risk by 4x.
During Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April, we called on filmmakers to try to illustrate the cognitive distraction that occurs when drivers use cell phones. This video, ‘What is Cognitive Distraction?’ was one of three winners. Watch all three and remember to drive cell free!
