It has probably been a while since you studied all the shapes and colors of various traffic signs. This material may be fresher for your teen because they recently took their driving test.
1. Practice identifying signs
On this drive, grab the “rules of the road” book from the DMV and, as teens travel various routes, quiz them about the design and colors of road signs. Do they still remember what each one means? Does the sign represent information or hazard? If you see a yellow, pennant-shaped sign ahead, does your teen know they are about to enter a no-passing zone?
In your discussion after the drive, ask them to explain how knowing shapes will help them on the road—and be honest about how many you remember!
